Applications are open for the Canon Oceania Grants Program 2020. Canon Oceania is offering over $30,000 worth of grants made up of both cash and Canon equipment across Australia and New Zealand. Over the last 14 years, Canon Oceania has supported over 75 schools, not-for-profits and community groups with more than $400,000.

While each grant winner previously received $5,000 in total, made up of $4,000 worth of product and $1,000 of cash; this year, they are splitting the offer evenly to $2,500 of cash and $2,500 worth of product, to support causes trying to rebuild themselves despite a weaker economy. The overall runner-up in Australia will receive $1,000 cash.

I. Awards Categories

Applicants may apply for a Grant in one or (where eligible) more of the following categories:

1. Educational Grant: A project being run by a primary, secondary or tertiary school/educational institution;

2. Community Grant: A project that has a positive impact on communities affected by natural disaster or the pandemic, encompassing cultural, societal, environmental and sustainability causes;

3. Small Business Grant: A project that will support small businesses rebuild themselves across any sector (businesses should employ fewer than 20 people and have less than AUD 10 million aggregated turnover at the end of the financial year)

Award Australia

  • Educational Grant - $2,500 product & $2,500 cash
  • Community Grant - $2,500 product & $2,500 cash
  • Small Business Grant - $2,500 product & $2,500 cash
  •  Runner-up Grant - $1,000 cash


Award New Zealand

  • Community Grant - $2,500 product & $2,500 cash
  • Small Business Grant - $5,000 product & $5,000 cash
  1. Eligibility

Canon Australia will consider your application if you are an eligible organisation and can demonstrate that the $5,000 ($2,500 in retail value and $2,500 cash) will be used to facilitate an educational, community or small business project that will benefit the Australian community or a small business project to help the business recover from the significant challenges faced in 2019 and 2020.

The Canon Oceania Grants Program does not support:

  • Political organisations
  • Religious organisations
  • Sport organisations
  • Requests from individuals who are not sole traders
  • Fundraising dinners or events
  • Capital building, endowment, or debt reduction drives
  • Requests from foreign countries

III. Media:

  • Applicants must be willing to speak with media and provide quotes for media outreach if needed.
  • Applicants must not announce their win publically (on website or social networks) until given the go ahead from Canon.
  • Applicants must specify if they've spoken to media about their project before and if so, include who, what when etc.


IV. Selection process!

Applications open from 15 June 2020 and will close at 5:00pm AEST 31 July 2020. Continuing the process from last year, Canon judges will select the top three entries in each category, which will then go through to a public vote, so the wider Canon community can have their say!

The top three finalists will be selected based on the environmental and social merits of their organisation, as well as the importance of Canon technology in ensuring their project’s success.
