The Global Water Partnership (GWP) is offering internships to students interested in sustainable development and water governance. The intern will be part of the Water Solutions for the SDGs team in the Network Operations Unit of GWP.

 The Water Solutions for the SDGs team is coordinating the implementation of the SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme, and the intern will assist the team in knowledge sharing, promotional and investment attracting activities related to the Support Programme. 

I. Main tasks 

  • Contribute to the further development and resource mobilization for a proposed Water Information Sharing Exchange (WISE) initiative focused on water data sharing
  • Provide general support for the review of regional reports on the current status of SDG 6.5.1 (specifically planned/ underway for South Asia, Western Africa, Mediterranean) and IWRM Action Plans
  • Support in linking SDG 6 Support Programme activities and outputs (action plans) with climate financing possibilities (GCF, GEF, NDC Partnership, etc.)
  • Conceptualize and support the implementation of a monitoring system for action plans developed under the SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme
  • Support in the implementation and animation of a Community of Practice (CoP) on SDG 6.5.1
  • Contribute to innovative communication activities and tools with a view to increasing the impact and outreach of the SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme
  • Take part in the meetings of the SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme, preparing the contents as appropriate, note-taking and facilitating follow up on decisions
  • Any other ad-hoc tasks to support the SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme

 II. Eligibility

  • Interest in and knowledge of the 2030 Development Agenda, Paris Agreement and Integrated Water Resources Management 
  • Meet all expenses for travel (if required), insurance and any other expenses through financial support from their educational institution, government, scholarships (e.g. Erasmus+ traineeship grants) or through personal resources
  • Excellent communication in English, in writing and orally (other languages are advantageous) 
  • Background in natural sciences, water resources management, water policy, sustainable development, communication or related fields, and an international perspective
  • Knowledge of environmental/water issues in the Global South is an advantage
  • Knowledge of climate finance mechanisms is an advantage
  • Basic understanding of project cycle management and in particular of monitoring and evaluation
  • Good analytical skills  
  • Good organizational skills 
  • Good interpersonal and multi-cultural communication skills 
  • Demonstrated good writing skills

V. Key Information

  • Interns accepted to this programme must be either enrolled in an educational programme at the time of application and during the Internship or recently graduated.
  • Interns will be part of the GWP internship Programme, which has been established to maximize the interns’ experience working at the Global Water Partnership.
  • In addition to completing work tasks detailed in the Terms of Reference, this Programme ensures that throughout your time at GWP the interns have time for networking, making personal connections with staff, and developing relevant workplace skill sets.
  • GWP offers no remuneration or any other financial support to meet expenses for travel, subsistence, or health/accident insurance. 
  • Dates: Flexible start date in July, 3 months minimum extendable up to 6 months (6 months strongly preferred)
